This is a different kind of museum, where most everything is not behind glass and you will not find many ‘Please Don’t Touch’ signs. At the Douglas County Museum, you’re encouraged to interact with the displays. Children are even encouraged to pull items down from the shelves, look into trunks, build and play.
If you’ve heard rumors there is a woolly mammoth on display here, you heard right. But this museum took it one step further, adding an indoor excavation exhibit and outdoor dig area, complete with woolly mammoth bones and pioneer artifacts. You read that right, you and the kids can actually dig and find bones.
Enjoy a day at the museum. Admission is just $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and vets, $2 for kids age 5 to 17 and free for everyone else. Open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM Tuesday through Saturday. Learn more here.
There are several museums in the area to enjoy.
You’ll find them here.
